Dublin City University has recognised more than 100 undergraduate students for their academic achievement in this year’s Leaving Certificate and A-level exams, at the DCU Scholars Awards in The Helix, Glasnevin Campus on Wednesday, November 27.

The students were recognised for achieving more than 600 points in the Leaving Certificate exams. Recipients hail from 17 counties across Ireland and represent the university’s five faculties: the DCU Business School, the Institute of Education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science & Health and the Faculty of Engineering and Computing. 

Speaking at the ceremony, DCU President, Professor Dáire Keogh told the awardees: “You represent the talent of our young people and the future of our country. I know that you will enjoy the academic challenges and opportunities that DCU offers, the chance to stretch yourselves. 

"It’s important to add that University is not simply about academic excellence, but about developing the whole person. At DCU, our aim is to give you a ‘transformative student experience’ that develops graduates who are ready to flourish in an unscripted world.”

At the same ceremony, Pearce McCrory (Methodist College, Belfast) was awarded the DCU McAleese Scholarship for achievement in A-Level examinations, and Laoise Cahill (Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh, Rathfarnham) received the Fiontar agus Scoil na Gaeilge scholarship award.
