Longford County Council planners approve Ballymahon Lidl store

Longford County Council planners have granted a planning application by Lidl Ireland Gmbh for the development for a Discount Foodstore Supermarket with ancillary off-licence sales in Ballymahon.

The development was approved subject to 20 conditions. The planning address for the new store is Main Street / Church View Backlands, Ballymahon, Longford, (including the rear of former St. Matthews National School, Nally Tyres / Circle K and adjoining lands).

It plans cover the demolition of existing single storey former school building and site clearance, and the construction of new footpath to existing Church View access road and associated and ancillary road realignment.

It also covers the construction of a new access road from Church View access road, providing vehicular and pedestrian access to the proposed development (and facilitating the future development of adjoining lands).

The plans are for the construction of a single storey Discount Foodstore (with ancillary off-licence use) with mono-pitch roof.

Included in the plans are provision for car and cycle parking, boundary treatments, free standing and building mounted signage, covered trolley bay, refrigeration and air conditioning plant and equipment, hard and soft landscaping, public lighting, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, roof mounted solar panels, ESB substation, drainage, utility and services infrastructure and connections, and all other associated and ancillary development and works above and below ground level.

The plans were submitted last May with the decision on the project being made this week. There were two submissions on file, one from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the other from the HSE.

The conditions include adherence to the submitted plans, conducting an archaeological assessment, road design, water and wastewater, signage, the provision of 109 car parking spaces, and payment of a development contribution of €32,040.
