Longford's Joe Shannon in action the Snooker Shoot Out in Leicester with a very worried World No 23 Robert Milkins looking on during the live televised match
14-year-old Longford snooker star Joe Shannon, winner of the Junior Sportsperson of the Year in the Longford Leader Sports Star Awards, in association with Longford Sports Partnership, lost out agonisingly and narrowly to world number 23 Robert Milkins in the Snooker Shoot Out in Leicester this Wednesday, December 4.
Joe, the youngest Irish player to ever compete in a tour event, played some incredible shots and he enjoyed a 42-1 lead when he unluckily missed a black.
Milkins clawed back into contention and when the Englishman got a second opportunity to build up points, he went 45-42 in front.
St Mel's College student Joe, who is coached by former Irish pro snooker star Fergal O'Brien, did play a lovely safety snooker with his final shot of the match, however, Milkins allowed the clock run down and didn't have to play his shot - much to his relief.
All Shoot Out matches are played over a maximum of ten minutes, with a shot clock of 15 seconds for the first five minutes and ten seconds for the last five.
The exciting quickfire tournament is being televised live on Eurosport and Joe, the youngest player in the tournament, earned a wild card entry thanks to winning the Irish U14 and U16 titles.
The Milkman delivers!
