Sergeant Enda Daly said on the day before the court Longford Garda Station received a call regarding a disturbance at Ardnacassa, Longford at 8:15pm.

The caller told of a drunken male in the area.

When the officers arrived they found Mr McDonald unsteady on his feet, slurring and with a bottle of rum in his hand.

The defendant was arrested for his own safety.

The defendant's solicitor, Frank Gearty, said: “Danny and Longford do not agree. He was paying a visit to family members and he should have got on a train without further ado.”

The court was told Mr McDonald was currently on a suspended sentence.

The defendant said he recently came into €8,000 and was in Longford to give money to his children, adding: “This was the first slip up I had in months.”

Judge Owens noted the facts of the case and said she was prepared to deal with the matter in a way that does not affect the suspended sentence and adjourned the case to April 25, 2025.
