Longford Community Resources clg in association with Edgeworthstown Library and Creative Places Edgeworthstown recently hosted a film screening of Ken Loach's film the Old Oak.
The film explores migration related challenges in local communities and delivers a message of hope and solidarity.
The film screening in Edgeworthstown Library was in line with Longford Community Resources’ remit to promote diversity and inclusion.
Community members and organisations from the Edgeworthstown and Longford area were in attendance.
A short discussion was held afterwards concerning the issues encountered by migrants and local communities when faced with inward migration.
Siobhan Masterson, Community development worker with Longford Community Resources, said, “In the current environment where migration can be a divisive topic, it was heartening to see a constructive discussion about it.”
She added, “The film shows that through our common humanity people can empathise and act in solidarity with refugees and migrants.”
