Revenue seize contraband worth €185,000 in Midlands and Dublin

Cigarettes seized last week

Over the course of the past week Revenue officers examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands seized approximately 5.3 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €106,400, during the course of numerous operations. Various quantities of other illicit drugs plus 6,200 cigarettes, with a total estimated value of €24,700, were also seized.

The illegal contraband was discovered, as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Grace and Enzo in parcels that originated in the USA, the UK, Canada, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Austria, France, the Netherlands and Sweden and which were intended for addresses nationwide. Telescopic batons, pepper gel and pepper spray were also detected.

Revenue officers also seized a quantity of retail goods, with an estimated value of €52,700, due to infringements of Intellectual Property Rights.

 

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.

The various quantities of other illicit drugs (in addition to 6,200 cigarettes), with a total estimated value of €24,700, comprised: 43.6g of honey butane oil, 38mls of cannabis oil, 653.2g of cannabis resin, 647.7g herbal cannabis, 11g synthetic cannabinoids,  94.3g of cannabis edibles, 6g of magic mushrooms, 911 Benzodiazepine, Tapentadol, Diazepam, Alprazolam, Zopiclone and Zolpidem tablets, 8.37g 2-MMC Powder, 240 hemp capsules containing THC, 36g Psilocybe, 10ml Psilocybin oil and 275g kratom powder.

The retail goods (worth approximately €52,700) seized last week, consisted of 158 x items of Adidas, Alexander McQueen, Ami, Armani, Cortiez, Cristian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Nike, The North Face, Armani, Canada Goose, Gucci, Hermes,  Lacoste, Palm Angels, Prada, Puma, Ralph Lauren, Stone Island, Tommy Hilfiger and White Fox.

Investigations are ongoing.
