Leitrim Animal Welfare have issued a hopeful update on the adorable 'Chance' after his near-death rescue in September.
The terrified young dog was seen darting through traffic in Sligo town on September 15, where a compassionate passerby stopped just in time to rescue him from what could have been a fatal accident.
According to the animal welfare group, the rescuer named him Chance "because this is his second chance—a chance to know love, comfort, and safety after a life of severe neglect".

When Chance was found, it was clear that he had endured "unthinkable" neglect, described as having a "fragile body and wary gaze" at just one years old.

Last Thursday, Chance visited the team at the Animal Health Centre in Manorhamilton. Unfortunately, he had developed a sore that required stitches, but thanks to the skill and care of the vets, he is reportedly healing well.
In addition to treating his sore, Chance was also diagnosed with a condition where his body isn’t producing enough pancreatic enzymes, which are essential for breaking down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. He’s now started on a new medication to help him process his food better and regain his strength.

Leitrim Animal Welfare ensured that there was god news for Chance in an update online, saying that they are "already seeing a positive difference".
"Since starting this treatment, Chance seems more comfortable, and we’re beginning to see small but meaningful improvements in his energy and mood," the animal welfare group explained on social media.

"There’s still a long road ahead, but every step forward gives us hope—and none of this would be possible without your incredible support".
A GoFundMe has been launched to help with Chance's recovery, and has already raised over €1,000 from local donations.
