Senator calls for urgent action to address shortage of spaces in Longford's special schools
Senator Micheál Carrigy has expressed concern regarding the shortage of spaces available in special schools in Longford.
Senator Carrigy has emphasised the critical need to increase capacity in Longford's special school system, an issue which is being felt across the country.
He stated: "At present, we are facing a situation in Longford where families with young children are struggling to secure places in our special school. Unfortunately, there are currently no available spaces, and this is a situation that we must address immediately."

The Fine Gael Senator has urged the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) to take immediate action in tackling this pressing issue in the county.
Senator Carrigy said: "It is essential that children are educated within their own communities, close to their families and siblings. No parent should have to face the prospect of traveling 50 to 60 miles twice a day to ensure their child can attend school."
He stressed that children in need of places in special schools should be able to do so in their own locality. He added: "We want every child in Longford who requires a place in a special school to be able to access it right here in Longford. Families should not be forced to send their children outside the county to receive the education and care they need."
The Senator has emphasised his commitment to addressing this issue and says he will work with the NCSE and all relevant authorities to do so.
