Longford's Culture Night was hailed as a great success by organisers, following a programme that featured events in almost every town in the county.

The annual celebration of arts and creativity featured a remarkable diversity of artistic disciplines.

Culture Night is an exploration of cultural activities marked by events throughout the country.

Acting Arts Officer with Longford County Council, Shane Crossan, was pleased with the public response to the programme: “It was the perfect frisson of music, performance and visual arts,” he said.

The celebration encompasses everything from small events in homes, to large outdoors, public spaces or community venues.

This year Longford's programme spans all aspects of culture from music to painting, language to literature.

“From the cultural performances in Kenagh and Granard, to the jazz in Pig Market Lane in Longford town people got the opportunity to appreciate the wealth of artistic talent Longford has to offer,” Shane told the Leader.

“Fire performances in the Market Square, photography exhibitions and the new art form of projection mapping that was displayed on the old Ulster Bank building highlights the diversity of disciplines Longford artists explore,” he said.

The most important feature of Culture Night is that it's free to the public: “Massive thanks to all of the artists, creators and businesses that supported Culture Night 2024. The event is flourishing in Longford every year, which is testament to the thriving Community of artists living and working in our county.”

The Acting Arts Officer said the local authority will build on the public response to this year's events: “The success of this years Culture Night programme was thanks to funders Longford County Council Arts Service and the new night time economy programme by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media,” Shane concluded.
