Motorists in Longford have been advised that there will be a number of road closures to facilitate the Ray Flynn Mile and 5K Night Run this evening.
The event honours the incredible achievements of Longford’s legendary athlete Ray Flynn. It is a series of running events that cater to all ages and abilities.
The Ray Flynn Mile and 5K Night Run will feature some of Ireland's top athletes.
To facilitate the Ray Flynn Mile and 5K Night Run, Longford County Council has given notice that it has made an order to close a number of town centre road ways from 6:00pm to 9:00p.
The closure affects those using Ballymahon Street, Dublin Street and New Street in Longford town.
This include junctions: Main Street (R198) and Ballymahon Street (N-63-590); Main Street (R198) and Dublin street (N-63-592) and Geraldine Tce (L-3006-0); Dublin St (N63-592) and Dublin Road (R393-232); New Street (N63-594) and Dublin Street (N63-592); New Street (N63-594) and Breadens Lane (L-30111-0); Earl Street (L-3011-0) and Market Square (N63-587); Ballymahon Street (L-3011-0) and Market Square (N63-587); Harbour Row (L-3012-0) and Market Square (N63-588).
The alternative route sees all through traffic use the N4 and N5 Longford Town by-passes. This road closure is in accordance with the Roads Act 1993 (Section 75: Temporary Closing of Roads) and Road Regulations 1994 (Article 12).
The Ray Flynn Mile and 5K Night Run will feature some of Ireland's top athletes providing an extraordinary opportunity for participants and spectators alike to witness elite-level competition.
The Ray Flynn Elite Mile Races is the show piece of the evening. Elite men and women mile races will take place on closed roads in the centre of Longford Town. A prize fund of €3000 will be distributed to the top finishers in the men’s and women’s elite mile races.
The Ray Flynn 5K Night Run is a mass participation run which follows the same town centre lap as the mile events, with an additional scenic short lap along the canal. The first 300 entries will receive a bespoke finisher medal.
The Primary School Children’s 1K is perfect for our younger runners, this event will take participants on the same town centre lap as the mile.
