This year, Culture Night takes place on Friday, September 20

Longford's contribution to Culture Night is firming up with 10 events already confirmed for the annual shindig.


With just a couple of weeks left before the annual celebration of arts and creativity the Longford listings slated in have a remarkable diversity.


Culture Night is an exploration of cultural activities marked by events throughout the country.


Last year in Longford there were 18 separate free offerings staged, including an Afro beats music and Kenagh Culture Evening.

This year, Culture Night takes place on Friday, September 20.


The night encompasses everything from small gatherings in homes, to large outdoors, public spaces or community venues.


The most important thing is that the event takes place on Culture Night and is free to the public. This year Longford's programme spans all aspects of culture from music to painting, language to literature. Longford's Culture Night programme has a depth that will ensure there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Punk rock to piano music, photography to drama, and reaching from Ballymahon to Granard there are gatheings that encompass all aspects of what culture means.


The county town hosts a curious project that is sure to spark public interest. Light Bank aims to transform the former Ulster Bank building into a canvas of light, illumination and community spirit.

This is a digital mapping artwork that seeks to blend the rich culture of Longford’s commercial past with contemporary digital art, creating a mesmerising visual spectacle that celebrates the place of Longford as a vibrant town.


The project will feature a sequence of animations and visual narratives projected onto the facade of the bank, telling a different story about the town's culture, its people and place. Projection venue will be hosted by Longford Arms Hotel.

Working in collaboration with mentor artist Caroline Conway, artists Nathan Sheridan, Mary Fleming, Raymond Asiemo and Patrina Prunty have developed site specific digital artworks that will be projected onto the former Ulster Bank building on Main Street.


Details of the events on offer will be announced in the run up to Culture Night, Friday, September 20.
