All set for Abbott Longford Marathon

The runners in the full marathon and all participants in the half-marathon will start at 9.00am on Sunday morning

All set for Abbott Longford Marathon

The final preparations are taking place as the runners in the 2024 Abbott Longford Marathon get ready to run tomorrow morning.

This year Abbott Longford Marathon turns 21 and a record number of over 1,200 people are expected to participate. 

In the last two decades it has become a festival that draws people to the town, with the running being the examination point to a drawing together of people in a celebration of running.

Five races of varying distance
will take place across the county, all starting from Longford Town. This year’s races are:
Abbott Streets of Longford 5k
Abbott Half Marathon (21k)
Abbott Full Marathon (42.25K)
Abbott Ultra Marathon (63.42K)
Abbott Marathon Relay (4 to take part in the relay consisting of 3 X 11k runs plus 1 X
8k Run)

  • The marathon will start and finish on Main Street near the Longford Arms Hotel on Sunday morning.
  • First off will be the walkers in the full marathon who will set off at 7.00am.
  • The participants in the Ultra Marathon who will start at 7.00am.
  • The wheelchair participants will start at 8.45am from the same location.
  • The runners in the full marathon and all participants in the half-marathon will start at 9.00am on Sunday morning.
  • The participants in the 5K Streets of Longford Road Race will start a few minutes after the Marathon & Half Marathon Start. Please assemble behind the Marathon/Half Marathon starters before the race goes off.
  • The course will be well marked and each mile will be posted. Regular Water stations, every 3 miles, will be available along the way.
