Technimark, a global manufacturing leader for the healthcare market, has received planning approval for a significant development of their Ballinalee Rd facilities.
The Longford based company lodged the planning application last May to expand. Located at Longford Business & Technology Park, Templemichael Glebe, Ballinalee Road, Longford the injection moulded specialists are one of the county's top employers.
The application was for the conversion of part of the existing warehouse to a manufacturing area. Other works include the construction of an extension consisting of manufacturing areas and warehouse areas and the construction of a new two-storey quality lab to the south east corner of the main entrance block.
It's hoped that the latest expansion could add a further 150 jobs at the Longford facility.
The Longford company, established over 55 years ago, makes injection moulded products for the medical device, pharmaceutical, and consumer product sectors.
Technimark bought out Longford Tool and Plastic in 2020. The plans cover a 3,500sq metre expansion at the plant and the expansion will commence as early as January 2025.
Speaking about the announcement Deputy Joe Flaherty welcomed the confirmation of planning approval: “This is very welcome news and I understand that the additional capacity will lead to a further 150 jobs at the Longford site. I want to pay tribute to Longford County Council and in particular, John Brannigan, for their steadfast efforts in this case.”
The development is major news for Longford as the leading US firm was also potentially looking at another site in Germany. It also follows a recent expansion at the plant which led to the creation of a further 100 jobs there (December 2022).
The total staff now at the Longford town plant is 230 and will head for 480 when the latest expansion plans come on stream
Deputy Flaherty continued by saying: “It's hugely positive for the town and when you consider the major expansions also at Avery Dennison and Abbott also, we will soon see in excess of 2,500 employed across the three multinational facilities.”
The planning permission provides for a lab on the Longford site: “The company’s European R&D facility is already located on the Longford site, this is a further and significant endorsement of the local plant.
“I want to pay tribute to Colm Cuffe, the management team and staff at the Longford site and commended them for their commitment to Longford,” Deputy Flaherty concluded.
