The Golf Classic was launched on Monday evening of this week at Longford Golf Club.
The 5th annual Longford GAA Golf Classic will take place on the weekend of August 30th/31st. (Friday and Saturday).
The event was previously run by Longford Minor Board and has been revived by Club Longford, the supporters/fundraising arm of Longford GAA.
Proceeds from the golf classic will go towards the promotion of underage football and hurling.

The event is held in association with Longford town native Michael Brewster and Corkman Bill Murphy, with both men due to attend the Golf Classic.
“Michael is from Farnagh Hill and has never forgotten his roots,” Cllr Martin Skelly, one of the organisers of the golf classic stated.
“Bill and himself are delighted to help the grassroots of Longford GAA and they will be coming to play golf at the classic,” Cllr Skelly, a former County Board Chairman, added.

Over the two days, there will be an “outstanding array of prizes available,” according to Cllr Skelly.
“We hope that more female golfers will participate this year,” Cllr Skelly stated.
The Golf Classic has become a well attended event on the Longford GAA calendar.

“Last year, over 50 teams participated. There were also as many sponsors of tees and pins,” Cllr Skelly explained.
“We are fortunate to have a beautiful golf course in Longford and we wouldn’t contemplate taking the event anywhere else,” he added.

There are a number of corporate sponsors of the event. “Joe Reilly of Castlethorn Developments is sponsoring the food. Valu Centre in Mullingar (Pat McCarrick and Colin Dalton) are sponsoring refreshments. Mahon Hospitality (John Mahon senior, John and Robbie Mahon) are absorbing the golf course costs,” Cllr Skelly explained.
“It is a good event for Longford GAA and a win win,” he added.
Teams for the event cost €300, with corporate donations also welcome.
