Jim McGoldrick (RIP) represented Longford at minor and senior level

The death occurred peacefully on Friday, June 28 of James (Jim) McGoldrick, Dun Laoghaire and late of Killiney, Co Dublin.

Born in Ennybegs, he was educated in the local primary school before attending Fransiscan College Multyfarnham for his secondary education. He graduated from UCD in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He owned a varied number of businesses through a long and hectic working life.

In his younger days, he was a very keen GAA player and represented Longford at minor and senior level. He was a member of the Multyfarnham team that won the Leinster Senior Colleges Championship in 1952.

He was also a member of the Emmet Óg team that won the senior championship in 1960, the first since 1915, where he played in the half forward line with his late brother Thomas. They also won the Leader Cup in 1959 and 1961. After his football days he became an avid golfer and was a long time member of the Delgany Golf Club.

As a mark of respect to Jim, a minute’s silence was observed prior to the Leader Cup Final in Pearse Park on July 6, between Emmet Óg and Clonguish.
Predeceased by his sisters Joan, Maur, Róisín, brothers Thomas and John, and son in law David, the late Jim is survived by his loving wife Frances and devoted children Ciara and Ronan.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, children, daughter-in-law Sonja, his adored grandchildren Lizzie, Anna, Lucy, and Johnny, his sister Conchessa Mulligan, sister in law Nellie, extended family and a very large circle of friends. Following his funeral mass in St. Alphonsus and Columba Church, his body was interred in Shanganah Cemetery.
