A fundraising event in support of Longford Palliative Care will also commemorate a brave Longford woman who lost her fight against cancer earlier this year.
In August 2023, Theresa McDermott Quinn, her family and friends took the second trek across Ardagh mountain to raise funds for the charity LARCC.
Close to 400 people turned out to show solidarity with the Longford woman as she raised funds for the leading cancer support charity.
Theresa, sadly, lost her battle with cancer in February. Her family and friends have continued the event Theresa started: “We, the family and friends of Theresa McDermott Quinn have arranged this fundraiser in memory of a wonderful wife, mother, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend.”

In the social media post the organisers said: “By way of thanks to the fantastic nurses at Longford Palliative Care and the Night Nursing Team we hope to raise some vital funds to help them continue their invaluable work with the same care and compassion shown to us just six months ago.”
Continuing the fundraiser in Theresa's memory is a fitting tribute to her: “It was Theresa’s wish that “Trek with Theresa” would become an annual event in her memory so that the foundation she started would continue.”

The Trek is a a 5km walk, but there is a shorter route for people just up and down the mountain that's around 2km.
“Trek For Theresa” takes place on August 31 starting at Ardagh Moydow GAA grounds at 12 noon and the organisers are hoping as many as possible can join on the day to remember Theresa.
