Granard Show takes place this Saturday and Sunday and as ever, it promises lots of entertainment for all of the family.

It is the 73rd instalment of the show.

There is plenty on offer, apart from the agricultural aspects.

The dog show, arts and crafts and trade stand are just some of the attractions, as well as entertainment for kids.

Kids entertainment will include face painting, Glencullen amusements and a colouring corner.

There is a wide variety of dog classes, including the ‘dog you would like to take home’ class.

The dog show will also feature qualifiers for Ireland.

All punters have the chance to win the ‘most appropriately dressed’ title.

For those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the show, there is a new feature this year, namely ‘the quiet area.’

There will also be a national schools competition.

Schools will compete in areas such as handwriting and painting.

Rosemary Gaynor, the librarian in Granard, will oversee the school's competition.

The theme of the schools competition (for both primary and secondary schools) this year will be biodiversity.

There will of course be the expected events, such as horse and pony classes, cattle classes, sheep and goats and on the second day, the showjumping event.

The Friesian Cow class will have a prize fund of €1,000. There is plenty of entertainment over the two days of the show in Higginstown.
