The annual Colmcille vintage car and tractor run will take place this Sunday, July 7. This year’s event will be in aid of Longford Hospice Palliative Care.

Running for over 10 years, the event has raised in excess of €110,000 for various local charities.

This is a big day out for vintage enthusiasts, whether car or tractor.

Last year, around 80 vintage vehicles participated.

“Registration this year is from 10.30am until 12 noon and the run starts at 12.15 pm sharp,” Micheál Shaughnessy, Chairperson, stated.

“Registration costs €20. The day starts off with a breakfast roll and upon return, there will be dinner. There will also be light refreshments in between,” he explained.

“If you want to carry a passenger, then it is an extra €10, if they wish to avail of the meal,” Micheál added.

The run will be taking in a wide area of North Longford. “Tractors will travel through parts of Ballinalee, Purth, Granard, Lisryan and Mullinalaghta before returning to Aughnacliffe,” Micheál explained.

Cars will have their own route. “Cars will be taking an alternative route, which will cover Longford, Drumlish, Edgeworthstown and Granard as well as going through local villages,” Micheál stated.

Micheál explained why the club decided to give the proceeds of this year’s run to Longford Hospice Palliative Care.

“Sadly, illness has struck our club and that’s why we have chosen this charity this year. I would like to thank everyone who supported us and helped out in the past,” Micheál added.
