A European election candidate has urged the government to ease planning regulations and cut its financial levies imposed on new house construction, to help address the housing crisis.
Speaking in Donegal, where he is campaigning, James Reynolds of the National Party, said that urgent action was needed to reduce the cost of building a new home.
“Current and proposed government initiatives and tax incentives do not solve the core housing issue,” Mr Reynolds stated. “I am calling on the government to make two key changes to make homeownership more attainable and affordable. First, by reducing the financial contributions levied by the state from new house construction, and second, by relaxing rural planning restrictions.”
