A cyclist was taken to hospital after being struck by a car in Portlaoise this morning.
Gardaí said the Abbeyleix Road was closed for a time this morning while they dealt with the incident.
The cyclist, who is understood to be in their 30s or early 40s, was taken to hospital with what gardaí say were non life threatening injuries.
The driver of the car was uninjured in the collision and gardaí are investigating the matter.
One local resident, who asked not to be named, said the collision occurred at the zebra crossing which was only installed a week ago.

“The council spent €4 million developing the road and it is a disaster and dangerous. The road is extremely narrow and distracting with tons of bollards.
It was an accident waiting to happen. HGVs can hardly squeeze by each other and there is near head on collisions every day,” the resident claimed.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who have camera or dashcam footage to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100.
