Fond farewell to ‘political genius’ Mickey Doherty

The small and usually tranquil village of Ennybegs was brought to a virtual standstill last Friday afternoon as Co Longford paid its final respects to the “master of the one liners” and “political genius”-Mickey Doherty.

The small and usually tranquil village of Ennybegs was brought to a virtual standstill last Friday afternoon as Co Longford paid its final respects to the “master of the one liners” and “political genius”-Mickey Doherty.

Led by his long time friend and former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, who was joined by another ex Taoiseach in Brian Cowen, a congregation of around 150 filed through the doors of St Mary’s Church to pay their final respects to one of Longford’s best loved political veterans.
