Longford man fined for being abusive to gardaí

A young man who was “working to get his life in order” received a €350 fine for a public order offence.
Paul Adetunji (23) of 55 Lana Aoibheann, Longford was charged with using threatening and abusive behaviour and failing to comply with the directions of a Garda after officers were called to an incident at the Connaught Road, Longford on May 15, 2023.
The court previously heard that on the day of the offence Gardaí were forced to deal with a large number of young men at a local filling station which resulted in the arrest of Mr Adetunji.

During the course of the incident, Mr Adetunji was told to leave the area on at least two separate occasions but failed to do so. The accused verbally abused Garda Michael Fox, telling the officer to f*** off.

Solicitor for the defendant, Brid Mimnagh, explained that Mr Adetunji was working to get his life in order and was undertaking an online business course.
Sergeant Mark Mahon confirmed that the defendant has not come to Garda attention since and Judge Bernadette Owens imposed a fine of €350.
