Dance enthusiasts will be looking forward to an enthralling show to be staged at Shawbrook this Thursday.
Choreographer Yuki Chung brings On The Other Side to the Legan venue as part of its residency programme this Thursday at 7.30pm.
Shawbrook manages a year round residency programme for professional dance artists.
It is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for dance and performance. Shawbrook has fostered a nurturing environment of dance creativity for over 45 years.
On their social media platform Shawbrook said: “Yee Kei Yuki Chung joins us this week for our second residency in Shawbrook for 2024!”
The process of On The Other Side 》started in 2020 and had been through several stages of research and development.
From its Trio R&D, First Solo, through Ensemble, to Second Solo, and finally Duet. It's been presented in dance festivals such as Florence Dance Festival, and been commissioned by dance companies such as Brancaccio Danza supported by Italy Ministry of Culture.
Its previous choreographic outcomes have predominantly been presented in the UK and Italy.
On The Other Side explores the emotional impacts on people who have experienced the death of others, the imagination of death, and the imaginary contact between the dead and the alive.
Shawbrook is now home to dance studios, a theatre, an outdoor stage, a forest of oak, ash, and beech trees and a suite of accommodation.
Their annual programme of events includes a year round International Artists-in-residence programme, Music and Dance performances at our Forest Stage area, and intensive professional development courses for dance artists.
Yuki Chung said of next Thursday's presentation: “I am looking forward to researching on how people walk through traumatic experiences involving other’s death through literature and documentary review.
“In the two weeks residency, bringing the knowledge and insight learnt, we will translate that into movement and choreography.
“The final performance in this residency, which is also a work in progress for this stage On The Other Side, will walk through the journey from sorrow and anger, to gaining resilience.”
Details of the event are available on the Shawbrook web page and their social media platforms.
