Gardaí in Co. Leitrim have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man's body on an area of open land over the weekend.

The alarm was raised on Saturday afternoon following the discovery in the Kiltyclogher area which is located close to the border with Northern Ireland.

"Gardaí and emergency services were notified at approximately 2.30pm of the body of a man, aged in his 40s. The scene is subject to a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau," confirmed a garda spokesperson this Monday morning.

A post-mortem is expected to take place on the body of the deceased and gardai say the results will determine the nature and course of the investigation.

Investigations into all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
