ALDI Ireland is to open a new €6.8M store in Granard in 2025. The German retailer was granted planning permission from Longford County Council for a 1,315 sqm store.
ALDI aims to open the store in summer 2025, making it the second ALDI store to open in Longford since 2000. The new Granard store will create up to 30 permanent jobs.
The store will have 120 car parking spaces for customers and 13 bike parking spaces. ALDI say they are “investing in a green future” by providing four electric vehicle charging points, while the store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will feature 245 solar panels on the roof.
The Granard store is one of the flagship locations included in ALDI’s €33.6m Midlands investment plan, announced in September 2023, alongside new stores in Moate (Westmeath), Kilcock (Kildare) and Tullamore (Offaly).
Pending planning approval all four proposed stores will open by 2025, creating 120 permanent jobs across the region, with 200 jobs supported during the construction phase.
Colin Breslin, Managing Director Buying & Services, ALDI Ireland spoke of the venture: “Every new ALDI store brings greater choice, quality, and value to shoppers, whilst also creating new permanent jobs in the community. We look forward to developing and opening the store and bringing more ALDI value to Longford.”
ALDI partners with three innovative food and drink producers in Longford. In 2022, ALDI sourced €4.7M of locally produced food and drink from Longford based suppliers. ALDI works with over 330 Irish food and drink producers and spent €1.1bn with its Irish suppliers last year.
