The death of Ita Wilson, Churchtown, Dublin, and formerly of Hampstead, London, is deeply regretted in the parish.

Wife of the late John P Wilson, late of Callanagh, Kilcogy, and former Tanaiste and Fianna Fail TD, Ita was literally his rock.

When he was first elected to Dail Eireann in 1973 and later became Tánaiste in 1990 Ita was there by his side as proud as any Mullahoran woman or man!

Apart from her husband’s achievements, politics played a huge part in her life, she was also a staunch GAA supporter and followed rugby and tennis avidly.

Aged 98 she was an inspirational person in her own right with a wonderful intellect and for those who were in her company she was a very engaging lady.

We extend our sincere sympathy to her daughters Siobhan, Clare, Lucy and Maria and her son John, her much-loved grandchildren, sisters-in-law Betty, Agnes and Mena and her large extended family circle.

Ita’s funeral took place in the church of the Good Shepherd, Churchtown on Monday 12th February with burial thereafter at Deans Grange cemetery.
