'Nature's gentleman' leaves long-lasting sense of loss on community

Danny O’Reilly, Mullaghboy, Ballinagh, Cavan died on October 28 peacefully surrounded by his family in the loving care of Cavan General Hospital.

In his late 80’s Danny (Dan) was predeceased by his twin brother Thomas a few years ago and his sister Rosaleen (Cullen) last January.

When the family was quite young they were orphaned when their parents died within a few weeks of each other. Their uncle James Cullen from Drumcor then came to reside with them eventually returning to Drumcor with him Rosaleen where she was reared.

Dan was a quiet and friendly man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and had many friends especially Johnnie who brought him around in his car and never let him down no matter what the call.

Dan’s funeral from St Mary’s church to Mullaghboy cemetery, with Fr Sean and Fr Jim Brady celebrating, was a tribute to one of the Bruskey river natives, when all the neighbours turned out man to man to say a fond farewell to one of nature’s gentlemen and one of their own. Rest in peace Dan.
