The Bog Lane Theatre will host the 2023 One Act Festival this weekend

Ballymahon will become a hotbed of drama this weekend as Bog Lane Theatre plays host to their 2023 One Act Festival.

The festival is part of the annual circuit that sees theatre groups compete in open and confined sections for the coveted All Ireland Drama title.

This year the All Ireland One Act Finals will be taking place in Castleblayney, Monaghan.

All around the country festivals are taking place and the nine best plays, all of them multi award winners, will progress to Castleblayney for the finals.

Ballymahon is a popular festival on hte circuit.

Commencing on Friday, November 10 at 8:15pm, and continuing on Saturday (November 11 at 8.15pm) and Sunday (November 12 at 6.15pm) there is a packed programme that is sure to delight local drama fans.

The festival kicks off on Friday night. The line-up includes Corn Mill Theatre from Carrigallen with 'Clarity At Last' by Charlie McGuinness. The Ray Leonard Players from Claremorris will perform 'A Night Without Stars' by Carl Nuzum and finally Prosperous Dramatic Society will perform 'The Same' by Enda Walsh.

On Saturday night’s entertainment will include PIC Players from Clara with 'Three Lives Three' by Noeleen Kavanagh. Corofin Dramatic Society will take to the stage with 'Opening Night' by John Clancy and the last performance of the night is Mostrim Players with 'A Wolf by the Ears' by Mattie Lennon.

Sunday night is the finale of the Ballymahon one act festival. Breffni Players from Carrick-on-Shannon will perform 'Being Norwegian' by David Greig, Skerries Theatre Group will take to the stage with 'Going Home' by Neil Simon and the final performance will be Balally Players from Dublin with 'Salome' by Oscar Wilde.

The adjudicator for this year’s One Act Festival in the Bog Lane is Paul Brennan. This one act festival features some of the top drama groups in the country, so a great weekend of drama is assured.
