Longford County Council triumphs at Safety Awards

Longford County Council has yet again been recognised for its outstanding workplace standards at the 32nd Annual All-Ireland Occupational Safety Awards.

Longford County Council has won the ‘Local Authority / Council Award’ and was again recognised as a ‘Consistent High Achiever’ at the annual ceremony, which is run by the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) in conjunction with Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG). The ceremony took place on Friday, October 13 in the Great Southern Hotel, Killarney.

Longford County Council has consistently been recognised as a top performer at the NISO awards, with successive wins at the awards every year since first entering in 2014.

This most recent achievement also follows Longford County Council’s prestigious win of the national Public Sector Award at the Health and Safety Excellence Awards which took place earlier this year.

Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Colm Murray paid tribute to all employees of the local authority following the awards. “I congratulate all employees on this achievement, especially the members of the Health and Safety team for their guidance. These awards positively recognise the dedication involved in maintaining Longford’s high level of workplace health and safety standards.”

Chief Executive of Longford County Council Paddy Mahon agreed saying, “Longford County Council’s Corporate Plan outlines our commitment to promoting a culture of health and safety across the organisation.

It’s great to be consistently recognised on a national stage for that work that is led by our dedicated Health and Safety team.”

Health and Safety Officer Theresa McCabe said, “Everyone is involved in Health and Safety at Longford County Council, the cooperation from employees and the management team is so important. It’s a great win for the whole organisation.

Many employees in Longford County Council work in a high-risk environment and providing a safety management system to help them, contractors and members of the public to return safely to their families each day is a top priority.”
