Longford town native Colum Moloney was presented with a special award recently at the Irish Embassy in London.

The occasion was a reception to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Brent Irish Advisory Service (BIAS) on Wednesday, September 27.

Irish Ambassador Martin Fraser and Darragh O'Brien TD, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, paid tribute to the important role that the charity has played over the past 45 years and in particular to founding member and current Chair Colum Moloney.

BIAS was set up in 1978 as a response to the welfare needs of the Irish community, the largest immigrant community in London at that time, with the aim of working towards improving the quality of life of Irish people and people of Irish heritage.

Colum has been involved with BIAS from the start and has lived in the borough of Brent for many decades.

He is a well known figure within the Irish and wider community and is a former Mayor of the Borough of Brent and a former deputy Leader of the Labour party on Brent Council.
