Longford and Ardagh Moydow GAA saddened by death of stalwart Pat Manicle

It's with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Pat Manicle, Farnagh Hill, Longford town and formerly Nappagh, Moydow, Co Longford on Saturday, October 28.

Pat was predeceased by his wife Maureen, brother Frank and his parents John and Anne. He will be sadly missed by his loving daughter Catherine (Quinn) Lettergunnell, son-in-law Sean, grandchildren Sharon and Seamus, brothers Jack and Seamus, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, good neighbours and wide circle of friends.

Pat was a leading figure in Ardagh / Moydow club for many years overseeing success on and off the pitch.

Pat was fullback on the Intermediate Championship winning team in 1971 and again played fullback in the Senior County Final in 1974.

He continued playing into his forties, representing the Longford Masters for several years.

Once finished playing, Pat remained involved and was Chairman on multiple occasions through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

Pat has the unique distinction of being Ardagh St Patrick's Chairman and Team Manager when the club captured the third of their four Longford Senior Football Championship titles in 1978.

Pat's involvement in team management continued into the 1990s where he was selector on the Leader Cup winning team.

Pat was also honorary Vice President with the club.

A minute's silence was observed before our U21 match versus Rathcline on Sunday in acknowledgment of the voluntary work that Pat did for the club.

There will also be a guard of honour at Moydow Cemetery this Wednesday, November 1 following his funeral mass at 11am.

To his family, we extend our sincere sympathy.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Pat will repose at Kelly's Funeral Home, Athlone Road, Longford (N39 K381) on Tuesday, October 31 from 5.00pm concluding with prayers at 8.00pm.
