Cavan and north Longford communities mourn death of highly respected member of the farming community

The Late Thomas Cullen, Drumbannow, Loughduff, Cavan

The funeral of Thomas Cullen, Drumbannow, Loughduff took place following requiem mass in St Joseph’s church, Loughduff on Tuesday, October 10 last to the local cemetery.

Deceased who passed away suddenly at his home the previous week (Thursday, October 5) was aged 89 and was a highly respected member of the farming community.

An industrious and hard working man at an early age while still living with his family in Killydoon he developed a keen interest in farm machinery.

He thought nothing of the long drive to Glangevlin on his tractor to do reclamation work and later he worked in Bord na Móna giving some locals a lift in his van.

When he married local girl Rosaleen Reilly they moved to Drumbannow, the original Wilson family homestead and reared their five children and carried on farming.

Sadly Rosaleen passed away only last January and now he has gone to join her.

Thomas was a friendly and affable character, he loved a good joke and was never known to lose his temper. He loved to read the local newspapers and tractor magazines, he said the Rosary every night and attended weekly mass.

He loved to ceile in the local houses especially in old Beglans house which was a casualty of the rerouting of the local N55.

He maintained his interest in machinery working his turf-cutting machine in the local bogs for many years and only a week before he passed away he was sourcing a new engine for his tractor.

He was predeceased by his brothers Andy and Pat and sister Bridget and will be sadly missed by his sons John (Sabena) and Seamus, daughters Martina (Tim), Mairead (Gary) and Noeleen, brothers Benny (Gowna) and John Joe (Killydoon), sisters Roseanne (Texas) and Mae (Drogheda), grandchildren Megan, Leisha, Keira, Xavier, and Sophie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews relatives and a large circle of friends.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
