Tenth Marathon a success

The Pat the Baker Longford Marathon took place last Sunday (August 28) and with over 1,000 entrants, its tenth anniversary was declared a great success. Crowds lined various sections of the route and were entertained by music and dance.

The Pat the Baker Longford Marathon took place last Sunday (August 28) and with over 1,000 entrants, its tenth anniversary was declared a great success. Crowds lined various sections of the route and were entertained by music and dance.

Among the notable successes of the day was Declan Nerney’s team who came in second in the Relay race. The first team across the line in the Relay was the Mullingar Harriers.

The first Longford man to complete the full marathon was Lorcan Gearty from the Longford Athletics Club, while the first female to complete the same race was Sinead Phelan from Longford Athletics Club (LAC).

In the half marathon, the top male Longfordian was Barry Sheil (LAC) and the first female across the line was Mary O’Reilly-Farrell. Mary is also an employee of Pat the Baker, sponsors of the Longford Marathon.
