FILE PHOTO: Eleven people refused social house offers in Longford
Eleven people refused social houses in Longford in the first three months of this year.
Longford County Council has revealed that eleven social housing applicants refused to take houses offered to them between January and March this year.
Three of the applicant's reasons were deemed ‘reasonable’ by the council, while eight were considered ‘unreasonable’.
The three ‘reasonable’ grounds were as follows: ‘homeless institution and is living in emergency accommodation/hostel’ and two other reasons were ‘physical disability requirements’.
The eight ‘unreasonable’ grounds for refusals ranged from: ‘rooms too small’, ‘did not like the area’, ‘overcrowded’, ‘intellectual disability deemed property unsuitable for needs’ and ‘requires Rent Supplement to provide for accommodation needs’.
This information was received as per a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2014 and relates to January 1 to March 31, 2023.
Locations of the houses and/or any identifiable information of applicants was not provided.
