Gardaí have seized cannabis herb to thought to be valued at €40,000 following the planned search of a premises in Newtownforbes, County Longford last night, Saturday, June 7 at approximately 9pm.
Two males, aged 31 & 29 years, were arrested.
The 29 year old was detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and was released from Garda custody without charge.
A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The 31 year old man remains in Garda custody at Longford Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
A week earlier, on Saturday, May 31, Gardaí from the Leitrim Drugs Unit assisted by local units from Carrick on Shannon and Mohill, seized cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €300,000 following a planned search at a house in Church Manor, Carrigallen.
A 43-year-old Vietnamese national was arrested and appeared in court in relation to the seizure.
