The three candidates seeking a nomination at the Fine Gael convention in Longford town last night all emerged successful.
Councillors Peggy Nolan and John Browne have both secured their ticket to run again in next year’s local election, while newcomer Yvonne Ni Mhurchu, principal Gaelscoil, Longfoirt also secured a place.
Sitting councillors Gerry Brady and Victor Kiernan announced their retirement from the local political arena, while North/West MEP Jim Higgins who chaired Sunday night’s convention confirmed that he would be seeking a nomination to run in the European elections next June alongside Mairead McGuinness.
