The committee behind Ballymahon’s hugely popular Helium Festival handed over a cheque for 8,000 to Ataxia Ireland at a special presentation held in Skelly’s Bar last Saturday night.

This year saw more than 35 acts performing at Helium, including Ash, Delorentos, and Jape, with a sell-out crowd of 1,500 turning out to enjoy the music. A 5/10k run organised by the Ballymahon Traders Association to coincide with the festival also contributed towards the final total. A cheque for 650 was also presented to the charity by the Bog Lane Theatre Group, who donated the proceeds from their production of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The 39 Steps’.

The combined efforts of the Helium Festival and the wider community in Ballymahon has resulted in over 40,000 being raised for Ataxia Ireland in the last four years.
