A batch of frozen shrimp is being recalled from Irish supermarkets due to the presence of illness-causing bacteria.
According to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), the recall alert for the batch of Full Moon Raw Frozen Shrimp (2kg) has been issued due to the discovery of Vibrio cholera and Vibrio parahaemolyticus.
Consumers who have bought the batch (Code 29936030; Best before: 01/03/2025) are advised not to eat it.
Symptoms of infection typically include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever, headache, and watery diarrhoea (which may be bloody or contain flecks of mucus).
Symptoms generally start within 6 to 48 hours and usually last between three to five days. However, depending on the species of Vibrio, symptoms may persist for up to 3 weeks.
In some people, particularly children under 5 years of age, the elderly, or those with underlying health conditions, the infection can lead to severe dehydration, which may be fatal if not treated promptly.
Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point of sale.
