From September 27-29, one of Longford’s main Gathering events, the St Mel’s Festival, will take place.

Throughout the weekend, there are many events scheduled to take place, including a guided tour of St Mel’s Cathedral, a guided tour of St Mel’s in Ardagh and a formal dinner at Viewmount House.

Tickets for the various events are available online from www.stmelsfestival.com priced from €25 for Sunday’s events to €95 for a weekend pass. President of the Longford Chamber of Commerce, Seamus Butler, has advised all interested in attending the events to book them online instead of just turning up, as they are not guaranteed a place without a booking.

The festival and its prices has caused some confusion amongst the people of Longford, with many believing that €25 must be paid to visit the Cathedral. Addressing these worries, Mr Butler explains that the guided tour will come as part of the €25 Sunday package, but the Cathedral will also be open to the public for free afterwards. “This is the flagship for the Gathering in Longford” Mr Butler said, adding “it couldn’t happen anywhere else”.
