I got several texts to please ask you all to vote for our local Sean nos dancers "Sean Nos Ar An tSionann" headed by Edwina Guckian who take part in the All Ireland Talent Show which will be televised on RTE 1 on New Years Eve at 6.30pm. We would like to offer our condolences to Ita Faughnan, Clooneagh and Michael Quinn, Ballygeeher on the death of their mother Kathleen Quinn, (ne Martin) of Aughadowry, Ballinamuck, who died on Wednesday December 15th last at St. Joseph's Hospital, Longford. Kathleen was laid to rest in Ballinamuck cemetery Friday December 17th. May she Rest in Peace.


I received a lovely hand written letter from Eileen in Belfast the other day it was too late for the notes before Christmas and it reads as follows;

"Eileen Hanley would like to wish everyone in Dromod, Annaduff and Bornacoola a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year. Thank you all for your prayers and Mass Bouquets. Holy Mass has been offered for all your intentions".

Leitrim GAA Supporters 25th Anniversary

A note in from my old school mate Eamonn Duignan Chairman of the Leitrim gaa supporters Dublin branch and it reads as follows; The Leitrim GAA Supporters (Dublin Branch) invites you to attend the Supporters Club 25th Anniversary Launch on Thursday 20th January 2011 at 8.00 pm in the Herbert Park Hotel, Ballsbridge, and Dublin (Entrance of Anglesea Rd.).

The 2011 Supporters Club will be launched by Drumkeeran native Joe Layden. Joe is well known to all Leitrim people as the founding Chairman of the Leitrim golf classic in Dublin. Joe, who is a successful businessman had an outstanding football career in the 1960's representing Leitrim (Team Captain), Connaught (Railway Cup Medal), Combined Universities and UCD (Captain and Dublin League and Championship medals). Joe was the founding member of the Leitrim Golf Classic in 1990.

Declan Darcy, captain of Leitrim's Connacht winning team in 1994 will be our special guest on the night.

A video looking back over the last 25 years will be shown on the night showing match highlights over the period and as many supporters as possible.

Joe Flynn Chairman of Leitrim County Board will address the meeting. He will be accompanied by the Leitrim Manager Mickey Moran and his selectors Martin Mc Gowan and Barney Breen

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Club every member who joins this year's club will receive a special memento.

This will be a very special night as we look back with nostalgia and pride at the past 25 years and look forward with hope to the coming session. Please spread the word to anyone from Leitrim who would like to attend I very much look forward to seeing you on the night.

Tea/ coffee will be served from 7.45 p.m. with the compliments of the Herbert Park Hotel.


The final Bornacoola Club Draw for 2010 will take place in the Copper Still tonight (Wednesday) with music by the one and only Colm Mulligan your support would be appreciated also tickets for 2011 are now on sale by most club members we would urge all to make a special effort to get one or two extra this year. Subscription for the year is €20.


The 7th annual Leitrim Goal Mile will take place on New Years day Jan. 1st 2011 at the Bornacoola gaa club grounds. Special guests attending will be Charlie McGettigan, Mick Flavin, Declan Nerney, Longford pipe band, O'Neill dancing school. Following the walk there will be the usual refreshments and entertainment in The Copper still with music by the Rodeo Man and of course Tommy will take the stand for the auction. All monies collected will go to help the poorest of the poor. So As ever your support would be greatly appreciated. Sponsorship cards are available from Noel contact number 0872646931. Some of the items for auction are accommodation in the following hotels Sligo Park, Wyatt Westport, Marcree, Kilronan and Lough Rynn Castles, Gleneagle Killarney, Cavan Crystal and Sunday lunch in Nevin Maguire's, Blacklion. Family passes to Dublin Zoo and Belvedere House Mullingar, Tickets to Rose of Tralee, vouchers for AXA insurance, Ard na Ha Health Farm, Strokestown Park House, Hodson Bay Athlone, Michelle Quinn beauty saloon Clara, beautiful paintings including one of Cloonturk Hall, autographed jerseys from all Ireland champions Cork, Aussie rules Irish team, Kildare and there will be more as the weeks go on.


Thanks to the Cloonturk Choir who braved the weather for the masses on over the Christmas. Belated birthday wishes to Nicola Reynolds, Clooncolry who celebrated her birthday on Christmas eve…. …welcome to my neighbour Caroline Howard home for the Holiday season ….good luck to Gary and Bernice on moving into their beautiful new home last week….
