“We don’t know which month Jesus was born in – so why did we pick the chilly end of December?
We chose the Days which come straight after the Shortest Day. In old days they did not have the physics to pinpoint when that was, nor the telegraphs to tell the world when it had happened. But by the time December 25th arrived they were certain that they had passed the Darkest Day.
December 25th brings the promises of more brightness and more warmth. That doesn’t mean that gloom and coldness, danger and death will stop straight away but it does mean that Better Things are Coming.
And that is why Christmas Day is so right. A small change has taken place, someone has come into the world and those who find out about him will discover faith, love and hope. My prayer for you this Christmas is that you will feel, actually feel, that the time is Right.”
