More than 20 highly specialised batteries were stolen from Bord Na Mona’s Mount Dillon Plant over the weekend, gardai have confirmed.

The stolen items include John Deere, Ford and New Holland models, used predominantly to service tractors and heavy duty machinery and were emblazoned with red and yellow paint.

Damage was also caused to a number of vehicles as the raiders used cutting equipment to secure the batteries. Gardai are, meanwhile, still trying to establish when the batteries were taken, but believe the incident occurred sometime over the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend.

As such, witnesses who may have noticed any suspicious activity both to and from the plant during that timeframe are asked to contact Lanesboro Garda Station (043) 3321971 or Longford Garda Station (043) 3350570.
