Water scheme works to start shortly

Local Area Representative in Tarmonbarry, Cllr Tom Crosby has indicated that he is to seek more information in relation to the filtration and upgrading of the North East Regional Water Scheme.

Local Area Representative in Tarmonbarry, Cllr Tom Crosby has indicated that he is to seek more information in relation to the filtration and upgrading of the North East Regional Water Scheme.

The construction of the filtration and treatment plants which is estimated to cost around €7 million.

The North East Regional Water Scheme serves the towns of Strokestown, Elphin, Kilmore, Tulsk, Rooskey/Kilglass, Tarmonbarry and Scramogue together with all their Hinterlands and all private group schemes.

“The North East Water Scheme serves a population of up t o ten thousand people,” said Cllr Crosby, adding that upgrading was essential.

“The project will see the building of a state of the art Water Treatment Plant costing around €7m and the relocation of the water networks from the existing source at Lisheen to Grange which will cost in the region of €3m.

“I understand that the contract will be put out Tender in the coming weeks,” he added.
