Arva mourns passing of highly respected Michael McGahern

Late Michael (Micky) Mc Gahern Cordownan, Arva, Cavan

It is with regret that we record the death of Mr Michael Mc Gahern, Cordownan, Arva which occurred in Cavan General Hospital on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

Micky, as he was popularly known, was 84 years of age and lived a long and healthy life. He was out visiting friends on the Friday prior to his passing and was only in Hospital a few days.

The suddenness of his passing was greeted with disbelief by all who knew him.

Micky started his working life with Keith’s, Arva in 1953 and after some time there he moved to work for the late Ned Maguire, Carrigallen driving the old Half Cab Busses.

His next move was to the Roadstone Quarry Corones, Arva from where he was delivering Concrete Blocks.

In his working life, Micky was well regarded by both his employers and by those with whom he worked.

He married his wife Kathleen (Kathy) Reilly, Loughduff  and they reared a family of four sons Sean (Wanda), Seamus (Sinead), Kevin (Carole) and Gerard (Sinead) and four daughters Collette (Robert), Joan (Paul), Eithne and Annette.

Micky was predeceased by his wife Kathleen, brother Sean and his sisters Kathleen and Tess, and is survived by his sons Sean (Wanda), Seamus (Sinead), Kevin (Carole) and Gerard (Sinead), daughters Collette (Robert), Joan (Paul), Eithne and Annette, his brother, sisters-in law Mary O'Brien (New York) and Sally McGahern (UK), brother in law Paddy Reilly (UK), his 13 adored grandchildren, all his relations and many friends to all of whom we extend deepest sympathy.

There was a steady stream of callers to his home where he lay in repose and his remains were brought to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Coronea for Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr Charlie O’ Gorman PP Killeshandra with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
