Longford Municipal District Meet the Candidate: Gerry Hagan, Fine Gael
Living in the parish of Killoe, Gerry Hagan is a post-primary school teacher and farmer. Indeed, he was the host for the 2023 Longford Agricultural Show and the show will take place there once again on Sunday, July 7 next.
He is a councillor in Longford Municipal District, having previously served in the Granard District, after being selected to replace Cllr John Duffy in April 2018.
Gerry has served on the executive of Longford GAA County Board in the past as PRO, Irish Officer, and Leinster Council delegate. He also served as chairperson of his local GAA Club, Emmet Óg. In this council term, he has served as Leas Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council.
He has also served as Cathaoirleach of Longford Municipal District. Cllr Hagan is currently a member of the Climate Action and Planning Strategic Policy Committee.
In 2022, when he was Longford Municipal District Cathaoirleach, Cllr Hagan spoke about an incident in which a house in a Longford town estate was burnt.
He said he had been left “extremely disappointed” at how such an incident could have occurred so soon after the estate was officially opened to the public.
“It’s very disappointing to see a house which was opened by the Minister for Housing being burned to the ground like this,” he said, while expressing his delight that no one was injured as a result.
