The late Lynsey Bennett
Hundreds of people attended the funeral service of CervicalCheck campaigner Lynsey Bennett at St John’s Church, Longford.
The 34-year-old mother-of-two, died peacefully after a brave battle against cervical cancer.
Mourners gathered to pay their respects amid torrential downpours as Lynsey was laid to rest in the church’s graveyard.
Numerous tributes were paid to the 'warrior queen of Longford' who was an inspiration to people all over Ireland and beyond.
Minister-in-Charge of the Longford Group of Parishes Rev Simon Scott presided over a ceremony that was planned out by the young woman.
Lynsey selected hymns and readings of faith and love with a clear message to those she left behind.
Rev Scott spoke of her 'remarkable spirit, courage and strength'.
He said the Bennett family also wanted to extend their thanks for the endless support from the local and wider community over the last number of years.
In a beautiful tribute to her late cousin, Rachael Bennett sketched a picture of a roguish, mischievous and fun loving character.
Rachael referenced her cousin's zest for life and her love of family and friends.
“She was blessed with two beautiful girls, Zoë and Hailee, who she loves dearly. They were her two rays of sunshine.
The CervicalCheck campaigner, who turned 34 earlier this year, succumbed to the invasive form of cervical cancer she was diagnosed with over five years ago following the alleged misinterpretation of her cervical smear slides.
