Ukrainians warmly welcomed by north Longford community
The community of Moyne hosted a welcome evening last Saturday, December 10 for the new Ukrainian contingent in the area, who are now calling the parish home.
A number of refugees, seeking safety from the war in Ukraine, were recently homed in the Old Parochial house in Moyne as part of an placement made through Longford county council’s Ukrainian crisis response team.
This placement was only made possible due to the huge voluntary effort made by local businesses and members of the local community, spearheaded by Dromard Area Men's Shed over the past number of months, to transform the house into a warm, welcoming home, enabling the community to provide accommodation for nine people in need.
The project, led by Dromard Area Men's Shed – and with the support and guidance of Fr Pat Lennon - hosted a welcome evening for their new house guests at the Parochial House of Fr Pat Lennon on Saturday evening.
