Galaxy Band Longford join the CASA Christmas party
A Christmas single by a Longford band is hoping to make a very special festive gift to a local charity.
County Longford Youth Service in partnership with Music Generation Longford announced the release of 'Christmas Is On The Way' by Galaxy Band Longford.
Galaxy Band Longford are a group of young Roma musicians living in Longford. They members attend the youth service’s music group on a weekly basis for the past two years.
The band members are Patrik Nistor (21), Miroslav Nistor (19), and Dominik Sarissky (17).
'Christmas Is On The Way' was launched in County Longford Youth Service on December 3.
Galaxy Band Longford wrote the tune and will donate all proceeds to local Longford charity CASA.
For over 40 years CASA has provided a social outlet to adults with physical and intellectual disabilities in Longford County. Through monthly events they foster friendships between volunteers and our members. They also take part in the annual CASA pilgrimage to Lourdes bringing terminally ill members of the community to the religious location.
Micheál Wall of County Longford Youth Service explained how the song came about: “Laura and Greg from Music Generation were a great help in the writing process. The band themselves put in lot of hard work to create the song. County Longford Youth Service recorded the song and the video. It features iconic images from Longford to reflect where the band's home. Galaxy Band Longford want to create a positive image of young people in Longford and do a little good for a local charity.”
County Longford Youth Service have provided a nurturing environment for Galaxy Band Longford through their music programme. It has helped the band progress to the next level of performance.
County Longford Youth Service run a music group once a week: “It's an opportunity for young people get to musical training. It gives them a space where they can practice.”
The charity beneficiary, Longford CASA, is a 100% voluntary run charity and who rely solely on fundraising in order to continue to provide the service in the community.
