A charity truck run that took place on Sunday hit an astonishing target four times what the organisers originally anticipated.
Brian's Truck Run raised over €20,000 for two charities and honours the memory of a young Longford man who tragically lost his life this time last year.
Organised by Katie McGinnity and Emily Reilly the Brian McGinnity memorial Truck Run has two charity beneficiaries. Brian tragically lost his life in a single vehicle road collision 12 months ago.
“It was such an amazing response, we were so overwhelmed,” Katie said of the outpouring of support for the event.
The funds raised by the event will benefit Vita House and Cian's Kennels. On Sunday the trucks met up in the car park in Providers, before following a circular course from Longford to Edgeworthstown then on to Ballymahon and back to Longford.
Katie says the total collected has yet to be tallied as there were a number of cash donations on the day: “We are delighted by the level of support we received. There were over 180 trucks taking part. They came from everywhere. We had trucks from Kerry and Sligo travelling to participate. We estimate the final tally to be over €20,000.”
Katie said the money raised by the truck run will go to worthy causes: “All proceeds raised will be donated to the Vita House Family Centre counselling services who have been a great help to the McGinnity family in recent times and also to Cian’s Kennels CLG who help bring pets closer to sick children and their families.”
Katie and Emily had pole position for Brian's Truck Run, leading the convoy in a van: “There was so much support from people who came out to cheer us on. It was incredible. We want to thank everyone who stood out and waved us on, to all the truck drivers, everyone who made the organisation of the event possible and of course to everyone who donated to the page.”
The iDonate page, which set the original target at €5,000, hit over €10,000 by Sunday. The run itself netted another €10,000.
