The contractor on the development was Donnelly Developments. The development consists of 14 units which include four three-bedroomed units and 10 two-bedroomed units.
Thirteen of the 14 units have been allocated and will accommodate 15 adults and six children.
St Michael’s Court is sustainable social housing development and well-located in the centre of Longford town. It is close to all local amenities, located in a mixed residential and commercial area.
The housing project was developed on a derelict industrial site. Its construction, therefore, enhances the visual appearance of the area. This project was compliant with key criteria for sustainable social homes.
Opening the social housing development, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said, “I am delighted to be here in County Longford for the opening of this social housing development, a really important regeneration project in the heart of Longford town. I want to thank Longford County Council and the developers for bringing this wonderful new community to life, and wish all the new residents every happiness in their new homes.”
Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Turlough McGovern welcomed the opening on behalf of the Council. “I welcome and thank An Taoiseach Micheál Martin for coming here to officially open this social housing development. It is very much welcome by the people of Longford, and most especially the new residences who will have new homes within the local community. They offer excellent places to live and I wish the very best of luck to all residents in their new homes.”
Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon agreed, “The standard of housing we see here is excellent. Thanks to the construction and design teams involved, to the Taoiseach for being here, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for the funding and support and to our own Housing section at Longford County Council for bringing these schemes to completion.”
